| The Chinese Lantern Festival in Franklin Square |
Spring and summer mean outdoor music festivals, concerts and the Chinese Lantern Festival in Philadelphia.
Although you have to pay for the festival to see it lit up at night, you can visit the park during day for free and see the lanterns.
Franklin Square also has a summer of free fun, including music and movies, the rest of the summer.
I got to attend a media preview last week, where the 28 brightly colored lanterns include a 200 foot long dragon.

Just walking around looking at the colored lights is fun, but there is more entertainment on offer. Performances include acrobatics and dance. And folk artists sell crafts.
The mini golf, which includes Philly landmarks like the Art Museum and Liberty Bell, is open during the festival, along with the carousel.

Food and drink
In addition to SquareBurger, during the festival there is Asian food for sale. I had veggie dumplings and a veggie burger.Franklin Square has local beers on tap. For the Lantern Festival, the Dragon Beer Garden has beer from China and Japan.

Dog Days of Summer in Franklin Square
Four legged friends are welcome at the park. But July 15 and August 12 they have special Dog Days of Summer. Sprinklers and pools cool off pups. And free pet portraits and toys let you take fun home.
